The Viking Channel is a service of the Upper Merion Area School District in cooperation with Comcast & Verizon Cable. The Viking Channel first came on the air in 1982 with the cablecast of the annual Thanksgiving Football Rivalry between Upper Merion and Norristown. Since then, the channel has broadcast over 6,500 programs to the school district community and now broadcasts over 250 programs per year. The Viking Channel covers every varsity sport, concerts, plays, meetings, proms, graduations and special events of all kinds. In addition to our event programming, the Viking Channel has a game show, a cooking show, a weekly sports wrap-up and a variety of interview programs spotlighting the students, staff and programs of the Upper Merion Area School District. The staff of the Viking Channel is entirely comprised of high school students who participate as an extra-curricular activity. A select few students participate in an intensive curriculum as part of the high school's independent study program. The students learn to be camera people, directors, editors, producers, instant replay and graphic technicians, and on-air talent. In addition to providing the community with entertaining and informative programming the channel also operates a video message board that runs whenever original programming is not on the air. If you would like to have an announcement posted, about a school district event, or you have a programming suggestion you can reach the Viking Channel at (610) 205-3961 or you can email the Coordinator directly at breagan@umasd.org
